Join us this winter…and into the spring!

After the holiday rush, why not take some time to pursue your favorite creative endeavors? Whether your poison is knitting, or crochet, or perhaps spinning or weaving, we’ve got lots inspiration to share this season.

We are very excited to welcome back knitting superstar Chris Bylsma to the store on Saturday and Sunday, April 10th and 11th for Design in a Day, Dropped Stitch Wraps, and Yarn Personalities, Pairing and Substitutions. Don’t miss these workshops! Chris is known for her ability to combine yarns to create stunning garments that are truly works of art. Sign up for these workshops today to reserve your spot – space in these classes is extremely limited!

Be sure to check out a very special trunk show featuring yarns from Be Sweet from February 5th – 13th. We will have large quantities of the fanciest yarns in the Be Sweet line, including Magic Ball, Ribbon Ball, Bamboo, Fluffy Nubs, Slubby Merino, African Bead Ball, Bubble Ball, and more. Be Sweet is a company with a conscience that was founded on the principle of being kind to others. Be Sweet works with several job creation programs in South Africa by giving artisans the confidence and means to support themselves and their families in an otherwise economically depressed region. The women who produce the Be Sweet yarns by hand are able to work in stable environments where they can earn a fair wage, learn new skills, and enjoy their jobs. At Haus of Yarn, we are happy to support this mission, and, well… love their yarns!

Lots of new warm weather yarns will be arriving in January in February including THREE new cotton and silk blend yarns from NORO, including a self-striping laceweight yarn called Sekku – we can’t stop thinking about all the possibilities! From Plymouth Yarn, we will introduce Oceanside Organic Cotton, a DK weight cotton with a great price. Cascade will send us Ultra Pima, a very pretty and shiny DK weight pima cotton with a firm twist. Berroco will send us Weekend, a 75% acrylic and 25% cotton in a big skein and, again, a great price! From Misti International we will bring in Pima Silk Handpaint, in beautiful colorways…and that’s not all! As always, we’ll have fresh batches of magazines and books to see whenever you stop in.

Check out our amazing line-up of classes on the following class schedule! We’ve got many new teachers this time - Julie, Dianne, Molly, Chris, and Charisse! We are proud to bring these ladies into the Haus of Yarn family. They will bring fresh talent and perspective to our store! So go ahead…sign up for a few classes so that you can pick up the techniques you’ve always wanted to try. We’re sure you’ll find our new line-up hard to resist.

Don’t forget to join us for Sit and Stitch! Join us each Thursday night from 5:00 – 7:30pm and knit or crochet on whatever suits your fancy. The first Thursday of each month will remain our Sock Knit-a-Long. We do hope you will enjoy spending time in the shop with other stitchers.

Design in a Day with Chris Bylsma
Experience: Intermediate knitters
Techniques learned: Want to turn that idea floating around in your head into a functional pattern with stitches on your needle by the end of the day? Or maybe you just wish you could change the neckline or sizing or… You CAN do it! Learn the practical, perhaps unconventional, ways to demystify gauge, sizing, style, measurements, swatch and yarn choice. The result is a personalized pattern for you and a new sense of empowerment. Whether you are adventurous or never ventured from a pattern before, learn to take control of your knitting.
Materials: Yarn and needles used for swatch, additional needles larger and smaller than swatch needles and perhaps alternate yarn(s) for swatching, tape measure, calculator, note paper, pencil, eraser, pattern or photo of desired design, knit top or sweater that fits you the way you like. Wear a tank top, camisole or close fitting T for taking measurements.
