Beginning Knitting
Experience: Absolute Beginner; no prior knitting experience needed
Techniques learned: Learn the necessary basics: Cast on, Knit, Purl, bind off, and yarn over, i-cord and seaming as you make a hat.
Materials: About 200 yards yarn*, appropriate needles, pattern*

Continental Knitting Workshop
Experience: Must be able to knit, purl, bind off.
Techniques learned: Learn how to knit using this traditional method in which the knitter uses their left hand to carry the working yarn. This method is shown to increase speed.
Materials: Practice yarn (worsted weight or larger) and appropriate needles

Ravelry 101
Techniques learned: You’ve probably heard us ask if you are on Ravelry, or seen shop models knit up from free Ravelry patterns. Want to know what all the fuss is about? Join Marissa for this informative class. Class size is very limited, so sign up without delay!

Some Assembly Required
Experience: Must be able to knit, purl, cast on, bind off, follow a simple pattern
Techniques learned: Quick and painless finishing techniques! Invisible side and shoulder seams, picking up stitches for button bands and necklines, button holes, weaving in ends. If you have a finishing problem, bring your project and we’ll figure it out.
Materials: Swatch yarns in worsted weight preferably wool or wool blend, 24” or longer circular needle 2 sizes smaller than the needles used for swatches, tapestry needle, scissors, assorted buttons

Intro to Knitting in the Round
Experience: cast on, knit and purl
Techniques learned: Learn to knit in the round while making a quick and easy hat. You will use a chunky yarn and a pattern designed by Charisse and have a finished (or almost finished) hat in just two hours!
Materials: Appropriate yarn* and needles
Class Cost: $25 for 1 two-hour session with Charisse

Fixing Mistakes
Experience: Knit, purl, bind off
Techniques learned: Learn great way to pick up those pesky dropped stitches, fix those twisted stitches, how to un-knit, rip out and get those stitches back on the needle, and make your knitting life a whole lot easier!
Materials: Practice yarn and appropriate needles
Homework required: Complete 5” x 5” garter stitch swatch and 5” x 5” stockinette swatch (leave on needles)

Magic Loop and Toe-Up Socks
Experience: Must know how to knit top-down socks
Techniques learned: Learn the technique of knitting with one long circular needle and how to make socks starting with the toe. We will also learn how to create a slip-stitch heel and the EZ-sewn bind off.
Materials: Sock yarn*, 40-47” circular needle, Magic Loop leaflet, darning needle.

Great Beginnings (Ways to Cast On)
Experience: Must be able to knit and purl
Techniques learned: Expand your knitting repertoire with more ways to cast on! We’ll explore knitted and cable cast-on, continental or “long-tail” cast-on, Norwegian cast-on, tubular (extra stretchy) cast-on, decorative Channel Island cast-on, crochet chain provisional cast-on.
Materials: Two or three contrasting colors of worsted weight wool or wool blend yarn in light, solid colors. Straight or circular needles and crochet hook in size appropriate for yarn. Additional needles in various sizes (slightly smaller or larger) may be helpful for experimenting.

Spinning on a Drop Spindle
Experience: No prior experience necessary
Techniques learned: Learn how to spin your own yarn the old way! You’ll just need a little bit of roving and an inexpensive drop spindle. Join us for this one-session workshop to get started.

Featherweight Cardigan
Experience: Cast on, knit, purl
Techniques learned: It seems everyone wants to make this simple and super stylish, lightweight cardigan – just 2-3 balls of Malabrigo Lace (just $10 each!) are all you need to make this one. Or go super luxurious with 3-4 balls of Filatura Di Crosa Superior cashmere and silk yarn. It is constructed from the top down, which makes it a breeze to knit. If you haven’t yet made your first sweater, this is the class for you.
Materials: Malabrigo Lace (2-3)*, pattern from Knitbot, addi Lace needles (in two sizes), stitch markers, darning needle
Homework required: Complete 4x4 swatch using suggested yarn and needles

Techniques learned: Entrelac simplified! Learn the basics of entrelac while making a cotton spa cloth.

Comfy Pullover Lite
Experience: Cast on, knit, purl
Techniques learned: This super light mohair sweater is knit on large needles for an open, airy fabric. This will look great over a tank or t-shirt. Simple knit-in-the-round construction, no shaping, easy ribbed cuffs and hem (and a neckline that’s so clean looking it doesn’t even need a collar - talk about easy!) and minimal seaming at the shoulders make it easy and quick to knit.
Materials: Phoenix Bess pattern, appropriate yarn* and needles (Lace needles recommended), stitch markers, waste yarn, and tapestry needle.
Class Cost: $50 for 3 two-hour sessions with Sue. Note there are three weeks between the first and second class to give you plenty of time to get to the next part of the pattern.

Fake Isle
Experience: Cast on, knit, purl
Techniques learned: Using a free pattern from spunkyeclectic.com, you will learn how to make your first Fair Isle project – a very simple hat made using one ball of NORO Kureyon and a plain, black yarn using to contrast and highlight the colors. The self-striping yarn makes the project look far more complicated than it actually is. Learn how to carry yarns properly to make fair isle part of you knitting repertoire.
Homework: Work pattern from cast-on to past the stripe.
Materials: NORO Kureyon (1)*, worsted black wool*, size US 6 16” circular & size US 6 DPNs OR two US 6 24” circular, tapestry needle, stitch markers, optional: two size US 8 24” circular.

Travelling Woman Lace Shawl
Experience: cast on, knit, purl
Techniques learned: Learn to knit lace using a free pattern download from Ravelry.com and only one or two skeins of sock yarn. Don’t fear the chart any longer!
Materials: 385 yards of fingering weight yarn, US 6 24” circular needle, stitch markers

French Press Slippers
Experience: Cast on, knit, purl, increase, decrease
Techniques learned: Constructed more like a shoe than a sock, these felted slippers will keep you stylish AND comfortable! Also great for gifts, as it is a very quick project! Get started in the first two classes, then bring your finished slippers to the laundromat for the final class to felt. There is enough time between the second and third classes to make more pairs, if you want.
Materials: French Press Pattern, worsted wool for felting like Ella Rae Classic Heathers or Plymouth Galway (2)*, size US 15 needle, two buttons, tapestry needle, small mesh lingerie bag.

Cabled Fingerless Gloves
Experience: Beginner or Intermediate – two patterns available
Techniques learned: Learn to knit basic cables and how to use double pointed needles. If you are a beginner, choose the Fetching pattern from Knitty.com or for an intermediate project try the Blue Sky Alpacas Cabled Mitts pattern. Either mitt is fun and quick and would be fantastic for gift knitting.

Tiny Christmas Sock
Experience: Knitting in the round
Techniques learned: Make a super cute tiny sock, perfect for a Christmas ornament or gift tag. Very simple construction makes this class a good introduction to sock knitting without committing to a large project.

Afghan Design Studio
Experience: Advanced beginner
Techniques learned: In this class you will learn the basics of combining textures and colors to create a one of a kind afghan. Spend the first class being guided through choosing a variety of yarns that work together, then the next class you will choose from several patterns to create your design. Not feeling up to a full afghan? Use these techniques to create a pillow instead.
Materials: Yarns will be selected during the first class, but you can bring anything in you want to match. You also need to bring along a décor swatch to match.

First Raglan Sleeve Sweater
Experience: Cast on, knit, purl
Techniques learned: Ready for your first sweater project? This pattern uses Cascade Ecological Wool, a bulky wool without a bulky feel. Easy construction and relaxed fit means you can have a sweater in time for cold weather!

Spinning on a Spinning Wheel – by appointment only
Experience: No prior experience necessary
Techniques learned: Learn how to spin your own yarn using a spinning wheel. We’ll teach you the basics of spinning singles, plying them together, how to prepare your fiber, and how to take care of and properly use a wheel. Bring your own wheel, or use the shop wheel to give spinning a try.
Class Cost: $40 for one 1-hour session with Marissa (includes roving)
 
 
 
Lessons for Children – by appointment only
Experience: No prior experience necessary, but must be able to tie shoes. Ages 8 and older recommended.
Techniques learned: We will work with your child to learn the basics of knitting and crochet (children may not attend adult classes)

Please ensure you can attend all the classes in the series, as make-ups are at the discretion of the teacher and are not guaranteed by Haus of Yarn. Class fees are non-refundable. Prior to 2 weeks before the start of a class, cancellations will receive store credit. After that, we will only apply store credit if your space in the class can be filled by another participant. We want your final project to be something you value for years to come.
