August Knitalong

The Haus of Yarn Yearlong Knitalong JULY/AUGUST Edition is Still Chugging Along!

Join us in the store today -- Monday, August 7th -- at 11:00 am as we continue and check the progress of the current installment of the Yearlong Knitalong! We're working on the Parthenon Wrap designed by Mama Jo! The design of this fingering weight wrap is inspired by the Greek architecture of one of Music City's most famous landmarks and is knit with just three skeins of Brooklyn Tweed Loft, a woolen-spun 2-ply yarn with a delicate twist.

Not interested in making the wrap? You can still join the Yearlong Knitalong with an afghan block pattern from the Haus of Yarn Block-a-Month Afghan book. The Block-a-Month Knitalong meets at 1:00 pm today...Monday, August 7th.

Remember: attendance for Knitalong Mondays is always free! As a genuine 'thank you!' for your participation, all materials purchased at Haus of Yarn that relate directly to each month's knitalong will qualify for double stamps on our Haus of Yarn Reward Card. DOUBLE STAMPS! We really do appreciate your participation and want to encourage as many of you to make as many of the monthly projects as possible. Earning double stamps will make it that much easier!

Not local? No worries! Join the Yearlong Knitalong virtually. Click here to join our group and come knit along with us!

We'd love to see your projects! In process or completed...if you're on Instagram, join in anytime with #yearlongknitalong and #hausofyarntn. Happy shopping, y'all!

Amy Florence

Stranded Dyeworks!

That lovely face above is Amy, the dyer behind Stranded Dyeworks! We met Amy last year, during the Super Summer Knitogether (SSK) retreat and instantly fell in love with her! She came allllll the way from the UK to attend -- my almost 50-year old self pondered if my 20-something self would have been brave enough to venture that far, not knowing a single person. No. No, she would not have been. Anyway! -- watch Amy walk in a room and I swear glitter, rainbows and all the heart emojis you can imagine begin to radiate from her! We got to visit with her again at this years SSK retreat and this time around, we also got to purchase some of her lovely yarn -- and we get to share it with you! The shop is currently stocking mini-skeins that'll work up quickly into a pair of FADED Rose City Rollers. There are two different color packs available: green to blue or purple to hot pink; check them out here.

Interested in attending SSK in 2018? Leslie & Laura don't really need our help with gaining interested applicants because sooooo many people want to attend...but if it sounds like your thing, fill out the registrant application that places your name in the attendance lottery! Registration opens up sometime next month, so if you want to be part of the 2018 SSK experience, join their Ravelry group and watch those message boards! They also host a weekly podcast - The Knitgirllls - so you could also subscribe to that to ensure you'll be in the loop. It's so difficult to put into words how much we enjoy this retreat...the classes are amazing, the food is delicious, the energy is positive, new friends are made, and you have plenty of time to catch up with old ones. It really is the entire package...and it's right here in Nashville! A ginormous thank you to Leslie & Laura for hosting; it's an experience like no other. Thank you!

Sock Blanks

Stranded Dyeworks Sock Blanks

Also available in-store and online: Stranded Dyeworks sock blanks! We have so few of these, we didn't want to remove one from inventory to make up a sample, so these photos are courtesy of the lovely Astryid via Ravelry. She worked up TWO pairs of the Rose City Rollers from a single sock blank that she combined with a wee bit of stashed solid black yarn for the heel & toe. For those not familiar with sock blanks, it's knitted fabric (the size of an average scarf), that come pre-dyed by Amy...you unravel it and knit the socks directly from the fabric as it unravels! Pretty neat, huh!?

TN State Fair

The Fair Is in the Air!

It's that time of year! The Tennessee State Fair is coming up soon -- Sept. 8-17. It's not alllll about Ferris wheels and corn dogs (though it is definitely about those too!) -- it's also a great place to take a look at a lot of fiber-related things...the Fair is loaded up with livestock, demonstrations and competitions that are all directly related to the hobby we all love...whether it's knitting, crochet, spinning, quilting, needlework, felting...the list goes on!

We encourage you to enter a Creative Arts category (you can see the list here); the more entries there are, the more people can see how vibrant our community is! Haus of Yarn-ers have done well in the past...help keep the streak alive. Plus, you might win a pretty ribbon!
