Dream in Color!
We've restocked a perennial favorite: Dream in Color Jilly! Designed with shawls and accessories in mind, Jilly is a soft and lustrous single-ply yarn and the magic of blocking really reveals the fantastic drape of it.
A single skein is plenty to make one of the four shawls by Woolenberry shown here. We're particularly fond of the following colorway/pattern matchups (clockwise from upper left in each group; the yarn pictured doesn't quite match up perfectly with the yarn in the finished project photos, but you'll get the idea!) - Interlude in String & Key, Herald in Amber Glass, Antarktis in Whisper and Melodia in Black Pearl. With over 25 colors to choose from, finding your favorite pairing is a piece of cake!
Thank you to everyone who joined us in store to help make a few blankets for orphaned elephants! We know many of you are also knitting/crocheting at home as well -- thank you! We'd like to have any completed strips in our hands by Monday, January 22nd! We'll need a solid week to seam the pieces together and get them on the way! If you have no idea what we're going on about...keep reading!
You've knit for babies, you've knit for your dog, and there's a very good chance that you've knitted for penguins or chickens. Well, here's your chance to knit for elephants!
Our good friend Katharina Gauss recently volunteered at Elephant Nature Park in Northern Thailand, where she got a crash course in the ongong abuse of Asian elephants.
The founder of ENP, Lek Chailert, has dedicated her life to rescuing abused elephants and giving them the life they deserve. Among several other projects around Asia, Lek has started working with an elephant camp in Myanmar that currently has seven orphaned baby elephants. Young elephants depend on their mothers until well into their teens; if the mothers are killed by poachers, their offspring are orphaned long before they're ready to live independently.
Did you know that it gets bitterly cold in Myanmar? We didn't either, but we do know we can help these little orphans defend against the winter weather because Elephant Nature Park has put out a call for some blankets to help keep these little guys warm.
Since spending time at ENP, Katharina has been looking for a way to give back to these beautiful creatures; we feel so lucky that she contacted us at Haus to help get some blankets made!
A little information about the blankets we're making:
- Size: Finished blankets will need to be 36"x60"
- Yarn: Acrylic or acrylic blend (machine washable/dryable), worsted weight (like Encore) - any color!
- Size 9 needles
- Can be knitted or crocheted
- No specific pattern needed; garter stitch is fine!
The in-store knitalongs are over, but you can drop off pre-made strips (by January 22) measuring 36"x12" and we'll then seam several strips together to make a complete blanket.
While we know turnaround is short, the goal is to get a few blankets done and in the mail by the end of January so these babies can use them this winter. Let's get together and help them feel warm and loved -- and we all know they'll never forget it!

The Estate Sale of Bobbe Morris
We're certain you remember our beloved Bobbe Morris -- a pivotal friend of Haus from the very beginning. Her children asked that we help spread the word about the upcoming sale of Bobbe's estate; she was quite the yarn collector and in addition to yarn, needles & notions available for purchase, many of Bobbe's exquisite handknit items will be included in the sale.
Friday, January 26th and Saturday, January 27th from 8am - 1pm.
