The "Three Shop Shawl" Project!

Y’all, it’s a tough time to be in the fiber business! You might be keeping up with the number of yarn-related companies/stores that have shut down for good due to the pandemic — it’s a shocking figure, really — but we’re doing our best to keep the lights on by stocking interesting yarns and projects that you might not have run across before.! And we’re not the only ones. Our yarny friends at Bliss Yarns and Ewe & Co are slinging yarn across the counter and popping it into the mail just as much as we are! Early in the pandemic, the fearless leaders of all three shops - Deb, Glenna and Meg -  leaned into one another and managed to keep in frequent touch and kept encouraging one another!

With that in mind, the three of them conjured up a shawl project that encourages you to visit all three of their awesome local yarn shops — whether in person or by web or phone — to really see what Middle Tennessee’s yarn landscape has to offer. So here’s the plan for what we’re calling the Three-Shop Shawl!

How it Works
We've chosen two patterns: one knit (Isabel Kraemer’s Gryer shawl) and one crochet (the Sorbet Summer Shawl from Rohn Strong). Both projects require one skein each of three different colors of worsted weight yarn; the idea is that you pick out one skein of yarn for your project at each of the three yarn shops: Bliss Yarns in Brentwood, Ewe & Co in Kingston Springs and Haus of Yarn in Nashville. While the pattern for Sorbet Summer is free from Ravelry, we’ll cover the cost of the Gryer! When you purchase your first skein at your first stop (for either project), just ask for the pattern and we’ll give you a printed copy.

It’s not a knitalong or crochetalong  — there’s no start or end date, and we encourage you to work at whatever pace suits you!  Simply visit one of those three shops however or whenever you can and they’ll get you started! Your support helps keep the doors open at all three shops, and we appreciate all of your visits to each of them — whether in the past or in the future!

Pictured below are the three samples of Gryer you'll see when visiting the three shops! Each shop worked up a sample using a skein from each shop. You'll need three skeins of worsted weight yarn -- one skein (approx 210 yards) each of THREE different colors; total yardage is approx 630 yards.

If you're local, we'd love to see you! All three shops are operating safely! Maintaining appropriate social distance and wearing a mask is mandatory, and lots of sanitizer is at the ready!

Once you get the pattern and all three store-specific skeins, get to work! Keep your fellow crafters - and the world! - updated by tagging #midtnyarnshops on Instagram. It’s a great way to help spread the word about just what special resources this area has!
