An Ode to Rowan Mode!

Y'all. A semi truck was required to deliver the shipment of Rowan's new Mode Fall 2024 collection on Friday! Six yarn lines, each available in ten colors, forty-two patterns, a piece of (unassembled) furniture to house the collection...what did not get delivered was someone to do allllll of the required admin to get this collection up and running. Honestly, Meg wasn't expecting this shipment until after Labor Day, so when she saw that semi take a run up the hill into our parking lot at 9:45 in the morning on Friday, there was an audible uh-oh. Then we put our heads down and got to work.

But...we DID it! It's ready for you and we're excited. We're gonna start by introducing four of the Mode yarns to you in this week's newsletter. As soon as we've recovered from the Olympian feat of getting all of this on the floor, we'll yammer about the other two.

The Shoal Cowl in Alpaca Haze

Alpaca Haze is a blend of super soft alpaca and wool (58% Alpaca, 22% Wool, 20% Polyamide), ideal for creating delicate but warm knits. The Shoal cowl is worked flat, featuring a beautiful, textured cable motif. Once the rectangle is complete, you'll fold and seam your cast on edge to your bind off edge.

Shop Alpaca Haze HERE! Two Alpaca Haze skeins are required to make this cowl. A printed copy of the Shoal pattern is here HERE, or you can be dragged into the 21st century and opt for the digital version HERE.

*photographed in Silk 013; ten colors available. Go wild, choose one you might not normally opt for!

Shell Mittens + The Heydon Hat in Alpaca Cotton

Alpaca Cotton (57% Alpaca, 43% Cotton) is a featherlight yarn, showcasing Mode's subtle color palette (it all works together, like magic!). It has an airy touch and romantic halo, achieved by filling a delicate cotton mesh core with luxurious alpaca fibers. The result is a lightweight yarn with spectacular texture.

The Shell mittens are worked in the round, featuring a classic 2x2 allover ribbed pattern. The coordinating Heydon Hat is worked in an allover 1x1 ribbed pattern and can either be worked flat and then seamed or in the round.

Shop Alpaca Cotton HERE! Two Alpaca Cotton skeins in a single color are required for the mittens; one each of two different colors for this color-blocked version of the hat. You can find both patterns in one little printed thingie HERE, the whiz-bang digital version HERE.

*Shell Mittens photographed in Foliage Green 018, Heydon Hat photographed in Foliage Green 018 and Feather Grey 013; ten colors available. Live a little! We see Blue Haze and Noir in your future...

Bury in Softest Alpaca

Mode's Softest Alpaca (70% Alpaca, 7% Wool, 23% Polyamide) is a luxurious blend of alpaca and Merino, selectively sourced with care from the Andean Highlands. This yarn is as light as a feather with a fluffy brushed texture, making it versatile for both simple and complex stitches.

Now y'all, we gotta talk about vests. They are the it item for Fall 2024, so just settle down and start one right now. Bury is worked flat, then seamed, while both the neckband and the armbands are picked up and completed in an allover 2x2 rib pattern.

Shop Softest Alpaca HERE! The old-skool (but beautiful!) printed pattern for Bury is HERE, the ding-dang-downloadable version is HERE.

The Lowestoft Cowl in Chunky Wool

Chunky Wool is beautifully spun from 100% pure wool, and is easy to work with. Chunky Wool gives beautiful texture and warmth to your knits: lasting strength and unbeatable coziness.

The Lowestoft cowl is one of those showstopper pieces. You know the kind: if someone walked into a room wearing this, you better believe I'm gonna go stand by them and figure out how much more we have in common! This one is simple, but great for the experienced knitter as well... perfect for anyone who might  need a palate cleanser between complicated projects, or something to pick up and set down whenever the mood strikes. It's also excellent for a brand new knitter; you'll have absolutely mastered the knit stitch after completing this beauty.

Shop Chunky Wool HERE! Seven Chunky Wool skeins are required to complete your project. The Lowestoft printed pattern is HERE; the digital version is HERE. Bonus: both pattern formats also include a pattern for a groovy little hat called Thorpeness (with cables and a pom pom!) that we didn't even get into this time around...but it requires two balls.

*photographed in Winter 011; ten colors available. Mix it up! Cowl and hat in two different colors, you wild thing.
