Welcome Knitting for Olive!

“Good, fast, cheap — pick two” is a common expression that refers to the idea that it's not possible to have all three of these qualities in something. With all due respect to that "common expression"...baloney. We're thrilled to tell you that Haus has picked up five different yarns (in approximately one billion colors) from Denmark-based Knitting for Olive...and they're all three: wonderful, available (it's IN STOCK!) and quiiiite the bargain!

Founded by a mother and daughter, this family business is passionate about responsible yarns, and all of Knitting for Olive's yarns are ethically created with high quality, natural fibers.

We'll go in depth a little more below, but if all that is TL;DNR for you, here's a rundown of in-Haus Knitting for Olive options:

Eva: KFO Merino + Soft Silk Mohair

Heck! Before we even finished processing, labeling and stocking the order on the floor, Meg stuffed this gorgeous green combo in her tote to cast on for the Eva Cardigan. Eva is worked from the top down and is designed to have approx. 10¼ inches of positive ease in the smaller sizes, with gradually less positive ease in the larger ones. Worked holding one strand of KFO Merino with one strand of KFO Soft Silk Mohair, the combination of yarns increases your gauge, while adding a luscious halo. Win/Win!

KFO Merino is a delightfully rustic yarn for wool lovers! Spun with 100% traceable Merino wool, KFO Merino boasts a fine gauge fingering weight that's ideal for cold weather garments and accessories.

KFO Soft Silk Mohair is fluffy and incredibly luxurious, spun with traceable, RMS-certified kid mohair and mulberry silk.  All of the silk in this yarn is made from open cocoons where the silkworms have transformed into moths and fluttered away. ("RMS" = "Responsible Wool Standard" ensures animals, farmers and environment are treated with respect).

Alex Scarf (in Three Sizes!): KFO Merino, Compatible Cashmere and Soft Silk Mohair

The Alex Scarf is a simple ribbed scarf that can be knit up in a wide range of different yarn combinations, depending on the look and vibe you're after. The scarf is worked back and forth, tip to tip, in a 2x2 rib pattern. The pattern includes instructions for three sizes; Small is approx 3" wide and 41.25" long, Medium is 4" wide and 49.5" long, Large is 6" wide and 90.5" long.

Our photo shows the small knit in KFO Merino (one skein is required) OR you could hold two strands of KFO Compatible Cashmere together for a real treat!! If you go that route, you'll need two skeins!

KFO Compatible Cashmere is spun with luxuriously soft 100% cashmere in a lace weight that delivers smooth, polished stitches. KFO Compatible Cashmere comes from goats in Mongolia and China. In Mongolia, the goats are tended by nomadic herdsmen and move freely on grasslands. Their Chinese counterparts are kept and fed on farms during the winter. When spring comes and the grass has grown high enough, the goats roam during the day and return to their farm at night.  Farms and herdsmen are visited twice a year to ensure that the animals are kept and treated respectfully.

The medium size is shown holding one strand of KFO Merino with one strand of KFO Compatible Cashmere. You'll need one skein of Merino and two of Compatible Cashmere.

The large size is shown holding two strands of KFO Merino with one strand of KFO Soft Silk Mohair. You'll need four Merino and two Soft Silk Mohair.

Moon Set Tee: KFO Pure Silk

The Moon Set Tee is a classic inspired v-neck with a simple silhouette worked from the top down. It features dropped shoulders and I-cord finishes for a casual look.

Worked in Knitting for Olive Pure Silk, spun with 100% bourette silk. This fingering weight yarn is perfect for warm weather tops, tanks, cardigans, wraps and scarves.  Bourette is crafted from waste created during silk processing.  It has a pleasing matte finish that's perfect for sophisticated or casual knits.  It's also stunning paired with Soft Silk Mohair for cold weather knits.

All of the silk in this yarn is made from open cocoons left behind when silkworms transformed into moths and vamoosed.

Sizing and Yardage Requirements:

  • XS (S) M (L) XL (2XL) 3XL (4XL) 5XL
  • Finished Bust Circumference 36 (38) 41 (43) 46 (50½) 54 (58) 63”
  • 4 (4) 4 (5) 5 (5) 6 (6) 6 skeins of KFO Pure Silk

Olive's Cat Beanie: KFO Heavy Merino _ Soft Silk Mohair

Olive’s Cat Beanie is worked in the round from the bottom up with one strand of KFO Heavy Merino held together with one strand of KFO Soft Silk Mohair. This one is sized for the littles in your life; 1-2 (3-4, 5-8) years to fit head circumferences of approx. 20¾-21¾ (21¾-22½, 22½-23½").

KFO Heavy Merino is made of 100% traceable, non-mulesed Merino wool. Since the wool is taken further from the sheep’s skin, KFO Heavy Merino is a bit more rustic and slightly less soft than KFO Merino. Heavy Merino is super strong, long-lasting and wears really well. It’s great for sweaters and can be combined with Knitting for Olive Soft Silk Mohair for extra softness and fluffiness. Heavy Merino is spun in a way that minimizes pilling.

All sizes of this lil' beanie will require one skein of KFO Heavy Merino and one skein of KFO Soft Silk Mohair.
