Arne & Carlos: Socks & More 4ply

It's not exactly new to us, but this sock yarn has been tough to get hands on for a minute...for whatever reason (looking around at, oh, the state of the world). But a big box showed up at last!

Designed by dazzling design duo Arne + Carlos, Socks & More 4ply is a gorgeous fingering/sock weight yarn spun with a blend of 75% wool and 25% recycled polyamide. It's soft, durable, and - thanks to that bit of recycled nylon content - eco-friendly. The result is a pair of socks that warms your feet and saves the planet! Win-win!

Each ball has 459 yards (100g) and is ideal for an average size pair of socks. The self-patterning colorways draw inspiration from traditional Scandinavian colorwork, as well as the surrounding beauty of nature.

Take a look at the numbered swatches above and simply match the numbers to the list below. Then CLICK HERE to load up with self-patterny goodness!

Regia 6-Ply

Looking for sock yarn that's a bit beefier? Ta-da! Regia 6-ply fits the bill.

Regia 6ply DK is a classic heavier-weight sock yarn that comes in lightly-tweed-flecked solids and loose-colorwork stripes, both of which look gorgeous with jeans. At just over 400 yards per ball, one is enough to knit a pair of standard adult socks. With a wool/polyamide/viscose blend (70/25/5), it won't felt and has great shape retention. This is a great yarn for hats and mittens, too - and looky looky: machine wash- and dry-able!

Old Rusted Chair: The Last Hurrah (Almost)!

As you probably know by now, our friend Lou at Old Rusted Chair is closing up shop and is headed to Parts Unknown (seriously: still unknown!). But we cleaned her out of all remaining stock and have a wall positively bursting with Old Rusted Chair fantasticness, in both Sock and DK weights.

ORC Sock is obviously perfect for, uh, socks, but it can also lend its magic to accessories! Take a look at the Wildheart Shawl. Designed by Janina Kallio, Wildheart is a one-skein project that combines dropped stitches, eyelets and simple lace for maximum effect. It's knit on the bias, and its alternating garter and lace sections hold your interest while knitting...but it also works up super-quick. You need just a single skein of ORC Sock for Wildheart. We're partial to the custom-for-Haus color Nourish shown in the photo above, but you've got a pretty wide swath of colors from which to choose. The pattern for Wildheart is RIGHT HERE.

ORC's Squish DK is also perfect for accessories. We love the Blended Cowl from designer SknitsB, which is way easier than it might appear; you'll only be working with one strand of yarn per round, since the colorwork simply consists of slipped stitches (it's not magic, but it seems like it!). The finished cowl measures 45" and we've doubled ours around the neck.

The Blended Cowl requires just two skeins of Squish DK: one skein each of two colors, and we recommend going with one speckled skein contrasted with one more-solid tonal that functions as a visual  "frame" for the speckly business. Our sample is worked up in Before Midnight + Your What!? but you can't go wrong with any combination. Squish DK is HERE. You can grab the pattern RIGHT HERE.
