Newsletter 905

Nov 25, 2025

The shop will of course be closed on Thanksgiving Day. Have a lovely holiday, full of all of your favorite Thanksgiving things....like gravy and pie. We're thankful for you every day; it's your loyalty and kindness that keep our - as well as other small businesses' - doors open and that makes each day feel like a small miracle.

Don't forget that the online shop is open 24/7!

Black Friday + Small Business Saturday

Once the holiday itself has passed, why not pay your favorite lil' yarn shop a visit? It's always a busy weekend for us but also one of our favorites. Between the traditional Black Friday crush and a newer favorite - Small Business Saturday - it seems like we see almost all of you in person or in our in-box!

Meg's been Stitch Stopper Crazy (it's a real disease, look it up) lately, and this weekend will be no exception. Spend $50 on merchandise* in the shop (in person or online) on Friday the 28th or Saturday the 29th,  and we'll slip you a set of two of these adorable yarn ball-themed silicon stitch stoppers (online shoppers: no code required, just hit the $50 threshold...we'll know to include it in your package). It's eight bucks worth of cuteness that you get for doing what you were already gonna do anyway: shop for yarn!

*While supplies last, for all $50 merchandise purchases made Nov 28 and 29. Sales tax and shipping do not apply towards the $50 threshold; offer does not apply to online gift card purchases.

 Year-End Sample Sale!

It's that time of year: the Shop Sample Sale!

Yarns come and go, colors disappear, styles change. For whatever reason, the end of each year has us casting an eye toward samples that are no longer earning their keep on the shop floor and you are the beneficiary! We've got loads of shop samples up for grabs. They're all priced as marked - usually just for the original cost of the yarn - but get this: we've taken 40% off even those prices! Play your cards right, make your way through the pile, and you could easily score a handknit sweater or an enormous, warming wrap for practically nothing.

We'll have all fifty billion samples up front for convenient pawing for a few days beginning on Black Friday (Nov 28)! It's a terrific opportunity to grab a handknit for yourself (or a gift...and you don't have to tell anyone you didn't make it!).

Note: samples are for sale in-store only; it's simply not practical for us to list them online. So come and see us if you can!

Shiny Object #1: A Glittering Sophie

You and every other knitter we know are already on speaking terms with PetiteKnit's Sophie, the Little Scarf that Rules the World. It struck us this week that with a yarn tweak or two, Sophie'd make a terrific "special occasion" accessory for the holiday season (and it's doable in plenty of time). Just pair a cake of shimmery, sequined Lana Gatto Paillettes with a matching ball of Knitting for Olive in Merino and you'll get the correct gauge for a Sophie...one with a little extra va-va-voom.  We've matched a few up for you in the photos above (we particularly love that blue combo!). It's tough to photograph but trust us: there are sequins!

PetiteKnit's Sophie Scarf pattern is RIGHT HERE. You'll need one each of Lana Gatto Paillettes and Knitting for Olive's Merino - regardless of which size Sophie you make, you'll have plenty of yarn. Paillettes is HERE and KFO Merino is HERE. One of each!

Shiny Object #2: Yuletide Socks with Sparkle

Also on the Sparkly Front this week: West Yorkshire Spinners' Signature 4 Ply in three holiday-themed colorways (one of them - Yuletide - sparkles; the other two are regular, non-sparkle yarn). Signature 4 Ply's wool/Bluefaced Leicester/nylon blend is one for the most reliable - but sumptuous! - sock yarns that we know of; we've never seen an end result we didn't covet. A single ball makes a pair of your favorite regular/vanilla socks (srsly, just type in VANILLA SOCKS at Ravelry!). Then haul out your trusty US3s and you'll have these well underway before you even pop the first door on your Advent Calendar (uh, see below; it's called foreshadowing).

You can find Signature 4 Ply RIGHT HERE.

A Very Special Class: the Sugar Bloom Crochetalong!

Granny Squares are quite the thing these days - from high-end designers to beginning crafters, they're everywhere. With that in mind, our Kendall is offering a class - structured as a "crochetalong" -  that'll end in you having made your very own Sugar Bloom Blanket!

Sugar Bloom is a classic Granny Squares project worked up in Modern Cotton DK. You'll work it up over three sessions with Kendall. The third session is delayed (check those dates!) so you'll have time to make your squares before assembly.

Take a look at the class listing (scoll down!) and see if everything works for you schedule-wise; if so, give us a call at 615-354-1007 to book your spot. You can grab that pattern HERE to do some figuring for your yarn quantities. Modern Cotton DK is RIGHT HERE.

Advent Advisory

Whether you're a one-door-per-day type or a bust-them-all-down-at-oncer, everyone loves an Advent calendar. For 2025, Firefly Notes has given theirs a little twist: 12 enchanting days instead of 25! Why? Because a perfectly curated set feels just right—less overwhelming, more affordable, and every bit as delightful.

The theme, Nature Meets Nostalgia, weaves together the quiet beauty of the natural world with the cozy charm of seasons past. Inside each calendar: seven no-snag round stitch markers, four removable progress keepers, and a matching, hand-resined round notions tin (on Day 12!).

Grab one - while they last! - RIGHT HERE.

Note: while we're down to single-digit quantities on these, the 12-day format (instead of the usual 25) still gives you time to grab one for yourself or as a gift. You don't need to start punching the goodie doors open until December 13th!
