Happy 2026!
FIRST UP: Very Important Class News!

Y'all...Beginning Knitting and Crochet classes are filling up in record time! Your new year's resolutions have kept the phone rrrrrrrrringing off the hook!

First quarter Crochet classes were completely sold out...but after a significant amount of begging on our part, our crochet queen Kendall added two new sets of sessions on Saturday afternoons in February and March; definitely check out those new Crochet 101 time slots RIGHT HERE (scroll down) to see if they work for you.

There are also still a (very) few Beginning Knitting sessions in March as well, so if you're on the fence....now is the time to book!

Class info is always gettable via the Classes page at hausofyarn.com. If learning to do something with your hands (other than operate the television remote) is on your 2026 resolution list, definitely click that link, do some perusing, and then give us a call at 615.354.1007 to get cracking.

Monthly Make/Knitalong REMINDER: January...and B E Y O N D

Just a quick reminder that January's Monthly Make in-store meetup is today (Mon, Jan 5) at 11am right here up in the Haus! If you need the lowdown on what all of that means, check the lead story in last week's newsletter (you can find that RIGHT HERE). Even if you missed that info the first time around, you haven't missed out on the KAL. This is a yearlong project. You can jump in at any time and catch up (or not, it doesn't matter!) at your own speed.

The first batch of knitalongers have definitely clearcut the wall of recommended Plymouth Worsted Merino Superwash, but remember: any worsted yarn you want to use is the right answer! Some folks are working it up in Ultra Alpaca, some in Knitting for Olive's Heavy Merino. Just remember: you need about 200 yards for each block. And rest assured: Meg has about sixty tons of Plymouth Worsted Merino Superwash on order if there's a particular color of that you've got your heart set on.

Again, you'll find alllll the details for this KAL in Newsletter 910

Own a Kelowna!

We've talked your ears off about Kelowna in the past but we're always excited when we get our hands on a new sample of anything. So when Alison showed up with her fresh-off-the-needles Kelowna, we knew we were gonna talk about it again! Kelowna is an absolutely terrific "beginner" sweater, but it's also perfect if you just want to take a break from fiddlier knitting.

You can find the Kelowna pattern HERE and the Loopy Mango Mohair So Soft that Alison used is HERE (she worked hers up in Moss, which is - sad face - almost sold out; more is on the way). But we also like Be Wool for this one (Loopy Mango is fuzzy and fun; Be Wool has a more traditional ply). Kelowna yardage chart for both is above.

And hey look: if you wanna make your own Kelowna but think you might need a little guidance, Alison is offering a class for this specific project. She's got a few spots left in her four-session Kelowna KAL that runs Jan-March. This class has a slightly squirrelly, spread-out schedule (and is not listed on the Classes page), so do make special note of these dates and times:

  • Sat Jan 10: noon-2PM
  • Sat Jan 24: noon-2PM
  • Sat Feb 21: 10AM - noon
  • Sat Mar 7: 10AM - noon

Give us a shout at at 615.354.1007 to hold your spot!

A Fantastic Hat...out of Thin Air!

Well, we were not kidding two weeks ago when we mentioned that every other person coming into the shop was working on last-minute Sailor Slippers! Who knew there were so many in-need bare feet in the world?

Anyway! Meg has restocked Young and Trendy, the 100% bulky non-superwash wool she brought in that's absolutely perfect for a pair of Sailor Slippers! Annie Germain's Sailor Slippers are a fairly simple project to tackle (technically described as "advanced beginner"): first, knit a giant slipper that would, oh, fit Bigfoot. Then, through the use of hot water (and magic!) your slipper turns out to be non-Bigfoot-sized. Meg knocked them out in two nights...plus wishy-washy time. Refer to the chart above for quantity guidance. You'll also need US 11 needles (circs or straights).

Almost by accident, Meg figured out that working up a pair of Sailors in Young and Trendy (using the A-B-C-D color breakdown in the chart above) leaves you with plenty of leftover yarn to knock out a Parry Beanie (with colors C and D). Parry is a free pattern from designer Ambrea Bishop; it's got a cushy double brim and its unisex design is graded for four sizes (baby through adult). You can find the pattern for the Parry Beanie RIGHT HERE. Quick-knitting Bulky Young and Trendy means...a finished hat in a night or two!

The Mysterious Murano Squares Frenzy

It's a truth universally acknowledged that we have no idea why some things in the shop randomly start moving like hotcakes. Sometimes it's a Ravelry "Hot Right Now" mention, sometimes an Insta post, sometimes a TikTok thingamajig (whatever TikTok is!). But occasionally something that's been in the store for a bit all of a sudden gets up and goes.

Such is the case with our Murano Squares bandana kits over the past few days...so many of you picked one up!  So here we are reminding the rest of you that we have a few of these!  Made up of two skeins of contrasting Polka Dot Sheep yarn (one in their Stumptown DK and one in Striata DK Gradient, both 100% superwash merino), Murano Squares is worked flat with just a tiny bit of seaming at the end (in the back), it's a dreamily simple mosaic project (worked one color per row via the magic of slip stitches) with a maximum WOW factor.

We worked ours in the Agpar + Dusty Road combo, but we love the possibilities of all four bundles! Keep in mind that the more solid color in each pairing functions as the grid that "frames" the colorwork that the variegated skein provides. The photo is pretty accurate, but if you're local (or just visiting), definitely stop by and take a look at this one; it's a stunner in person.

You can grab a Murano Squares yarn bundle RIGHT HERE. The pattern is not included in the bundle, but you'll find it RIGHT HERE.

Camellia Fiber Co's Purple Passion

Our great friend Silbia at Camellia Fiber Co worked her dye magic in late 2025 and came up with an absolute stunner of a one-time shade: African Violet. When she recently announced that the dyeing window for it was forever closing, we placed our order as quickly as possible! We picked it up in both Sylvan Fingering and Suri Silk Lace. When held together, these two are perfect for sweaters; handled solo, they're ideal for accessories like shawls and scarves. However you decide to use them, you'll quickly discover they're an absolute pleasure to work with, which is par for the course with everything Silbia touches. Sylvan is an alpaca/silk/cashmere blend (70/20/10) with a whopping 437 yards per skein. Suri Silk Lace is baby suri alpaca and mulberry silk (74/26) with 328 yards per skein.

While we do love a perfect match when holding two yarns together, we're always playing with just-off matches as well. With that in mind, you might also consider using African Violet with Camellia's permanent stock Wisteria shade; the contrast between the lighter Wisteria and the darker African Violet would bring a rich bit of variegated jewel-tone into your wardrobe.
