Big Cotton, Big Sale

We were surprised to hear from our friends at Loopy Mango recently that they're discontinuing Big Cotton. As a yarn shop in the south, we're always fielding questions about and tracking down cotton yarns for warm-weather-wearing, and Big Cotton has been a recurrent go-to for us. Oh well, c'est la vie!

The shop's loss is your gain, however. Big Cotton in all colors is now 20% off...until it's all gone! There'll be no reorders (since there's none to order!), so what you see in-store (or online) is what we have. You can find Big Cotton RIGHT HERE.

Keep reading for a few ideas for it! TWENTY PERCENT OFF kind of ideas!

Big Cotton Projects!

To help you take advantage of Big Cotton's brand new lower price point, we've scared up a few past projects that we just love.

1  The Cropped Cardigan is a perfect summer layering piece...and it knits up quickly enough for you to actually wear this summer! The body of this cardigan is knit flat in a single piece from the bottom of the back panel up, then over the shoulders, and down the front panels. Stitches for the sleeves are picked up from the body, which are then knit in the round. The sides of the cardigan are finally seamed from the bottom hem to the underarm.

*The pattern for this project is free with a corresponding six, seven, eight, ten or eleven-skein Big Cotton yarn purchase. You must put the phrase "Cropped Cardigan" in the notes field during checkout so we'll know to include the printed pattern.

2  The giant cabling on the Off the Shoulder Sweater is easier to achieve than you might think - and with Big Cotton on your needles, it only takes a few stitches to do it! This one is great for summer and looks great dressed up or down.

3  The Big Cotton Baby Blanket makes the perfect baby shower gift. Mom and baby will both love how soft it is! It's worked in allover seed stitch on US19s, and we're in love with the stitch texture combined with the softness of the cotton. It's perfectly sized at 28" x 34". The Big Cotton Baby Blanket requires five skeins of Big Cotton. It can be worked up in a single color, or you can be indecisive (like us!) and make it in three (we used two skeins each of White Night and Misty Morning and one Canary).

Travel Time is Tote Time

It is absolutely the time of year when everyone is looking for a perfectly-sized, easy-to-care-for travel tote to haul knitting from coast-to-coast. We think Celina Mancurti has cracked the code with her canvas totes with detachable leather handles. Just take the handle off and wash the danged thing!

They come in two sizes - both are roomy and suitable for almost any big project - and two colors (natural and black). The colorful leather straps and bag charms are sold separately, making customization simple and fun. Just choose the strap you want and clip it on and get going!

Definitely check out the detailed listing RIGHT HERE to get the complete skinny on what is sure to become your favoritest bag ever.

Superwash SuperStock...Plus a SuperShawl

Plymouth's Worsted Merino Superwash is always coming in - you folks simply cannot get enough of it - but even we were surprised by the size of our most recent shipment! It took the Yarn Siblings (© just in case) three days to get it all up on the wall in some sort of sensible order and we've got backstock shoved (lovingly!) into every nook and cranny in this shop!

Soooo the restock is the news of course...but look! A free pattern as well! We love a pattern that lets us exercise different skills and this Cable Edged Shawl is perfect for that. None of them are difficult - a little cabling, some eyelet lace and a bunch of garter - and the end result is a generously-sized (70" wide!) stunner. Since you only need four skeins of Worsted Merino Superwash for this one, it's easy on the pocketbook.

Take a look at all seven million (give or take) solid shades available RIGHT HERE.  There are also ten brand new speckled shades - called Splash - and you can see those RIGHT HERE. You can grab that free pattern (it's both written out and charted) RIGHT HERE and you'll be halfway through it before you know it!

A Sabai for the Summer

We first showed you this one almost a year ago to the day, but it's definitely having a moment all over again right now! Susanne Müeller's Sabai is the perfect light tank for summer. With a flattering boatneck that we simply can't get enough of, it's a great piece for beginners (if you can stockinette, you can do ette!) that hits the sweet spot between "simple" and "classic" - you'll wear it for many many summers to come.

The pattern has two variations: one with ribbed borders, one without. It's amazing how a simple change creates such a difference...the first is classic and traditional, the second a little sleeker and contemporary. Knit it both ways! Worked up in Sandnes Garn's cotton/viscose/linen Line Worsted, we love it in almost any color. It's fantastic in creamy, dreamy lighter neutrals and dramatic brights just about equally. Refer to the chart below for sizing/skein number assistance!
