Well here's a bit of good news: Haus will be extending our hours for the month of August to accommodate the hordes of Great Tennessee Yarn Crawl-ers. We'll be here two hours extra each day, slinging yarn and notions to anyone who's looking! Come on by and take advantage of the extra shopping time - whether you're a Crawl-er or not! - during August; regular 10-2 hours will return in September.
Sabai has been having a moment all year long, and now our Alison is offering a guided makealong class in which you can make one. It's a four-session class meeting on Fridays from 2-4pm; those dates are Aug 7, Aug 21, Sept 4 and Sept 18. Note that each session is two weeks apart, which gives you plenty of time to keep up and get your stockinette done!
Susanne Müller's Sabai is the perfect light tank for mid-to-late summer. With a flattering boatneck that we simply can't get enough of, it's a great piece for beginners (if you can stockinette, you can do ette!) that hits the sweet spot between "simple" and "classic" - you'll wear it for many many summers to come.
The pattern has two variations: one with ribbed borders, one without. It's amazing how a simple change creates such a difference...the first is classic and traditional, the second a little sleeker and contemporary. Knit it both ways! Worked up in Sandnes Garn's cotton/viscose/linen Line Worsted, we love it in almost any color. It's fantastic in creamy, dreamy lighter neutrals and dramatic brights just about equally. And we've recently restocked and added a new-to-us color we are making alllll the googly eyes at: After Dark. Refer to the chart above for sizing/skein number assistance!

Christmas in July...Barely

We are absolutely mad for this little Star Scarf, a new addition to the long tradition of small portable projects with easily memorizable patterns. Toss two balls of yarn and a handful of stitch markers in your bag and hit the road. Before you know it, you'll be sporting a Star of your very own. The Star Scarf is worked lengthwise in garter stitch and uses (extremely simple) short rows to form an interesting angled design with two different colors. It's an ingenious little reversible stripe of style, if you ask us! And don't be put off by that short row bit; this is in fact a super easy way to learn what they're all about.
We also think that this is a great project for folks with college-starters this fall; just choose the school-in-question's colors and you'll have a sophisticated version of a stadium scarf to tuck into their luggage. Oh, and it's also fantastic slapped on a purse, so if you need something to throw on in a chilly restaurant - or your Birkin just needs a glow-up - well, here you go.
The Star Scarf pattern is RIGHT HERE; it's written for both fingering and DK weights (either/or) in two different lengths (it's foolproof, though: it works in any yarn gauge). Ours is the small version, worked up in Colors 16 and 10 of Fonty's Mongolia 3, a sport-weight Merino/yak combo that works up like a dream. You can find Mongolia 3 RIGHT HERE. Take a look at our suggested combos above, or do your own thing. One each of two colors will do the trick. Twice, actually - you can get two small Stars out of that amount of yarn. One for your neck and ONE FOR YOUR BAG. We mean it: it looks great on a bag!.
The Big Cotton sale continues, but y'all: there ain't much left. Still, grab it while you can, because there's not gonna be any more!
We were surprised to hear from our friends at Loopy Mango recently that they're discontinuing Big Cotton. As a yarn shop in the south, we're always fielding questions about and tracking down cotton yarns for warm-weather-wearing, and Big Cotton has been a recurrent go-to for us. Oh well, c'est la vie!
