The Lulu Slipover

We're currently nuts for the combination of two beautiful yarns (both recently restocked in a bajillion colors): the superwash Merino of Malabrigo Mechita held with Malabrigo Mohair.

The Lulu Slipover from PetiteKnit is a perfect project for the Mechita and Mohair combo! Worked from the top down, it features an exaggerated armhole that closes with two buttons placed low on each side. Handsome ribbing throughout and double knitted edges create a lovely, polished finish.

We didn't want to write a check the store couldn't cash by not having one for you to see in person, so Haus' resident super-deluxe knitting savant, Patty, knocked one out. Come lay eyes on it (more importantly: feel it!) in the store! Or if you're far-flung, just look at the pretty picture of our Alison wearing it above. Why, she's practically a Price is Right model!

Patty's is worked up in the Whole Grain combo, but take a look at some other color suggestions above. Lulu is a bit of a chameleon; she looks great in neutrals or in the vibrant, signature saturated Malabrigo shades you already love.

The pattern is RIGHT HERE and, as usual, PetiteKnit writes a great pattern. There's also a set of video tutorials, should you need them! Since ours is worked up in yarn not mentioned in the pattern, refer to the chart above for sizing and yardage guidance; we did the math so you don't have to.

You can find Malabrigo Mechita RIGHT HERE. Malabrigo Mohair is RIGHT HERE.

Another Mechita + Mohair Project: Sophie

If you thought we'd let a week go by without mentioning a Sophie Scarf...well, you lost that bet. It's also a perfect - albeit much smaller! -project for the Mechita and Mohair combo, and it works up quickly! Just grab one skein of each and get busy; you'll be done in no time (it's a perfect planes, trains and automobiles project if you've got last-gasp-of-summer travel in your plans). The Sophie pattern is RIGHT HERE ...if you haven't yet memorized it.

Everyone Likes Lykkes!

We haven't talked about needles in a long while. Odd, since a good 50% of you folks who come into the shop are hunting for one needle or another. A massive box of Lykke interchangeable sets arrived this week, so now seems like a good time to start yapping!

We're big fans of Lykke needles; they're durable and easy to interchange and they've finessed the cord issues that plague so many interchangeables; these are smooth and flexy (it's a word, surely) and trouble-free. We've got sets in almost every configuration and in several different finishes - their original Driftwood, blond Naturale, vibrant pink Blush and the whimsical rainbow offered in their Colors option. All are made from practically indestructible birch; only the finishes differ.

They come in a handful of configurations: 5" and 3.5" full sets, 5" and 3.5" starter sets, even little mini sets for you sock knitters! If you need some guidance sorting it all out, we're here to help!

Lykke's Full Sets - both 5" and 3.5" - are HERE.
Lykke Starter Sets in both tip lengths are HERE.

Choose your configuration first, follow the link, and then look for your finish! And if metal needles are more your style (we're out of newsletter space, but we've got them!), check out Lykke's Flight series - you'll find them on each configuration listing. They're seriously nice needles.

New "Open Wider" Bag Designs!

Bagmaker extraordinaire (and Monday Haus of Yarn cash register jockey) Vicki whipped up a couple of new print options to add to her "Open Wider" bag line this week (one of which, surprisingly, does NOT involve cats - check out the dancing vegetables!).

BlackCat Bags' Open Wider wedge-shaped bags feature a (wait for it) "open wider" zipper and tab that allows them to open considerably wider than a standard wedge beg. The finished size is 15" x 10" x 5" with a nice flat bottom that sits tight by your side. It's also got a swivel wrist strap that clips on via a D-ring.

Made with indie designer cotton or cotton/linen canvas, each bag is fully lined. Fabric placement and linings may vary, but each bag is individually "fussy cut" to showcase the design of the fabric.

These are a great way to "keep it local"! Find all of them - including the new ones! - RIGHT HERE.
