Modern Tweed: New Colors for Carya

The yarn photo above is a strong hint as to what's on our mind: it's alllllllmost Fall, y'all. Time for transitional yarns and time to get those layering pieces on the needles in time for the turn in the weather!

Shop favorite Modern Tweed is out with a few new colors, all of which scratch that "Fall is impending" itch. We love it for a few reasons: it's an appealingly soft blend of wool, polymide and viscose (60/20/20), it comes in a gorgeous array of everything-works-with-each-other colors, and it's as light as a feather, especially for an Aran weight yarn. Added bonus: that same big ol' Aran-ness means it works up in no time!

We love it for the stylish little Carya cardigan, a terrific way to introduce a staple layering piece into your outfit rotation. Our store sample (in the photo above) is worked up in grey, ecru and berry...but we think this one is practically begging for an autumnal color combo!

You can find the free Carya pattern HERE; take a quick look to make some yarn quantity decisions. You can find Modern Tweed Aran RIGHT HERE.

Hinkston Handmade: Other Colors!

Last week we showed you Hinkston Handmade's Tennessee Mountain Home self-striping sock yarn (there are a few full sized single skeins left!) but it comes in other gorgeous colors as well! We particularly like the Meemaw's Herb Garden option, but they're all fantastic!

Sturdy Sock is an 80/20 superwash Merino/nylon sock yarn that comes in a couple of formats: a single 446-yard skein or two 223-yard "Matchy Matchy" skeins (perfect for a matched pair of socks!).

Creative Linen: On Sale!

In the yarn world, things come and things go and sometimes which direction things are headed can come as a surprise. For example: Rowan has decided to cease production of their Creative Linen, a yarn near and dear to our hearts. It's fantastic for anything that needs an elegant drape like ponchos and shawls - nothing drapes like linen! - but it also crosses over into everyday practicality and makes absolutely gorgeous kitchen towels (an elegant handknit or crocheted tea towel is a fantastic wedding gift).

With all that said: Creative Linen is currently 20% off!

Creative Linen's 50/50 linen/cotton blend is perfect for the Easy Eyelet Poncho, worked up in what is quite possibly the simplest lace pattern that exists; a one-row repeat (!) where you'll simply work that single row again and again until the desired length is achieved. Then you just fold it in half, seam it up a bit along one of the edges and you'll have created a classic, breezy, multi-season layer. Quick to knit, it’s got more holes than yarn! And you only need three skeins of Creative Linen (and a US 8 needle) to do it.

You can find the pattern RIGHT HERE.

Creative Linen is RIGHT HERE. When it's gone, it's gone. Sad face!

Everybody Wants One of These Needle Gauges!

At last, she's been restocked! Twice Sheared Sheep's Quick Gauge Ruler is back and represented with a big ol' stack at the counter!

Quickly check the stitch gauge on your project in both knit and crochet. No counting needed! Simply slide the Quick Gauge ruler over your project until the stitches line up inside one of the gauge grids. The matching grid shows your stitch count per inch.

New Class Alert: Learn Brioche!

There's a new class on the books that starts in mid November — so read on, check the dates, and give us a call at the shop (615 354-1007) to book your spot. This will fill quickly - we get a lot of requests for it! - so don't dilly-dally.

Learn the ins and outs of (and take all of the fear out of learning to) brioche! Your instructor Kendall removes the intimidation factor that seems to accompany learning brioche and you'll master it in no time...and end up with an absolutely show-stopping BrioCherry hat. Plus: a skill that you can revisit again and again.

This three-session class is scheduled for Nov 14, Nov 21 and Dec 5 (2026!) from 12:30 until 2:30. Check out the Classes page for further details!
