Newsletter 403
Summer has arrived! and we've been busy bees, plotting and planning events and classes for you! It's been beyond difficult to not share all that we've been dreaming and planning, but over the last week, all the stars aligned and all that dreaming finally came true. So it's time to share the news!
In addition to a full roster of class offerings from our own very talented in-house teachers -- Sandra, Shayron, Julie, Leah and Sue -- we'll be offering classes with Laura Linneman, Mercedes Tarasovich, and Romi Hill! And if that isn't enough to have you woot-wooting at your computer screen right now, how about a few trunk shows featuring some indie makers? Still not woot-wooting? Then what about participating in The Longest Day fundraiser that benefits the Alzheimer's Association or World Wide Knit in Public Day? Grab your calendar and a cup of coffee; we've got a lot to share!
Maker Trunk Shows & Events
Maria Elena Bliss Trunk Show, Wednesday, June 15th, 10 am until 2 pm Maria lives in Florida and makes the most incredible project bag we've seen. The seams are sewn not once, not twice, but three, sometimes four times to ensure a product that will stand the test of time. Lisa came home with one after attending a knitting retreat in Georgia...Meg saw it and ordered one up immediately...then Kelley saw it and ordered up one for herself! We reached out to Maria to see if she was interested in sending us some of her bags for a trunk show. Not only did she say yes, she surprised us by agreeing to drive up for it. So she'll be here if you want to meet the maker behind these beautiful bags! She'll be bringing different sizes and colors in a beyond beautiful sheep-motif canvas fabric from Kokka. And if that isn't enough, we'll be serving mimosas and baked goodies!World Wide Knit in Public Day, Saturday, June 18th, 10 am until 4 pm Join us on our porch for this annual event! People all across the globe will be gathering in different spots for no other reasons than to knit in public (thus raising knitting awareness!) and to enjoy each other's company. If the weather proves to be anything like last year, it'll be hot! We'll have plenty of water, tea and baked goods on hand, so we promise: no fainting!
The Longest Day fundraiser, Monday, June 20th, sunrise until sunset The Longest Day is a team event that raise funds and awareness for the Alzheimer's Association. Held annually on the summer solstice, the duration of this sunrise-to-sunset event symbolizes the challenging journey of those living with the disease and their caregivers. Do you think we can raise $1600? We think so! Go here and pledge! The shop will be open from 5:30 am until 8:08 pm, where we will be sittin' and stitchin' in an activity we love, to honor someone facing the disease. Join us! We'll have donuts and coffee for the early birds.
Strands by Sallie Trunk Show, Saturday, August 13th, 11 am until 4 pm Meg was helping a client one day and complimented her on the necklace she was wearing. It turned out to be made by Sallie Swor, a longtime customer of the shop! A procurement phone call was made on the spot! Using Austrian crystals, Swarovski pearls and semi-precious gemstones, each Strand is hand beaded and knotted using a trademarked stitch on nylon and silk cording in a variety of colors. The result is a 46" to 52" long Strand of stunning jewels! Wear it wrapped triple for a necklace, doubled for a lariat, wrap it seven times for a bracelet or try four to five wraps to create a lovely ankle bracelet! We'll be serving mimosas and snacks...hope you can make it!
Neeley's Knits Trunk Show, Saturday, September 10th, 10 am until 4 pm Ashley is an indie dyer from Kentucky and specializes in beautiful hand-dyed yarns inspired by movies, television and pop culture. She'll be bringing all sorts of her beautiful yarns including this Wizard of Oz/Wicked Witch inspired colorway. Her self-striping yarns usually include a sidekick skein for the toes, heels and cuff. Word on the street is that she is working on dying a custom color just for us...inspired by our sweet baby boy shop dog, STANLEY! Let's have a collective awwwwwwww!
