LYS Day

Local Yarn Store Day...This Saturday!

It's almost here! Show your support for small businesses (like Haus of Yarn!) by celebrating the inaugural Local Yarn Store Day on Saturday, April 21st!

A lot of our favorite vendors have stepped up with offers that will really help make it a special day -- please keep reading the stories below for all the goodies!

We'll also be hosting four local makers in-store to celebrate the craft we all love:

Meg from Nutmeg Fibers will be with us all day with all four of her amazing yarns, each sourced from the US and dyed by hand with natural dyes in small batches.
Lauren from Old Rusted Chair will be in-store between 11am and 2pm and will have freshly restocked the shop with her incredibly gorgeous hand-dyed speckled and tonal yarn!
Mary Jo from The Crafting Treehouse will be here all day with her adorable wooden stitch marker sets and Kitchener key fobs.
Vicki from Black Cat Bags will be with us all day (uhm, err...she'll be the one running the register!) with her impeccably sewn box bag projects bags!
And, as usual, we have an entire section of the store devoted to locally-made yarns and accessories: Mason Dixon Knitting, Fringe Supply Co., Thistle Farms, River Cottage Farm...and so many more. Come join us and support your favorite LYS and local makers!

Adventura

Local Yarn Store Day Goodie #1: Adventura from Laura Nelkin

Laura Nelkin has partnered with Kelbourne Woolens to create an exclusive LYS Day pattern available only in brick and mortar shops - Adventura, featuring Kelbourne Woolens Andorra! Adventura is a choose-your-own shawl adventure: start with a neutral color and knit up a simple boomerang shape. Work a few transition garter rows, and then it's time to begin your color journey! We have all twelve colors of Andorra in stock, so there are lots of possibilities!

The pattern is only one dollar with any purchase from us on April 21st and then available in-store (at its regular price, $6) through December 2018.

Casapinka Local Yarn Shawl

Local Yarn Store Day Goodie #2 -- Casapinka's Local Yarn Shawl

Bronwyn (aka Casapinka) is offering this terrific pattern -- called "Local Yarn Shawl" -- for free if you purchase the yarn for it in-store on Saturday. The Local Yarn Shawl is an asymmetrical, triangular shawl consisting of simple lace and slipped stitches. The pattern is written for two sizes. We'll have a sample in the store knit in the larger size with Old Rusted Chair (that's not what's in the picture -- our sample is currently on the blocking board drying. Sorry!).

Berroco LYS Day

Local Yarn Store Day Goodie #3: Six Berroco Summer Shawls

Berroco has given us a limited quantity of spectacular printed booklets that contain patterns for six different summer shawls, including Zita (knit in Corsica) and Trista (knit in Pima 100).

The early bird gets the worm, though: these won't last long, and you have to be in the store to claim one -- we open at 10am!

Plymouth LYS Day Patterns

Local Yarn Store Day Goodie #4: Plymouth Patterns -- Times Ten!

Our friends at Plymouth are offering ten popular patterns for free (including the three shown above). It's an exclusive deal for shop visitors only on the big day, so when you come in...ask!

Brooklyn Tweed Trunk Show Woolens

Brooklyn Tweed Woolens Trunk Show

While you're in the store for LYS Day, make sure to check out the spectacular in-store samples from Brooklyn Tweed's Woolens collection. Eleven accessory patterns by BT designer, founder and creative director Jared Flood are highlighted. From hats and cowls to scarves and shawls, Woolens has projects for beginners and experienced knitters alike. Stop in to gawk and get inspired -- and get your own copy of Woolens, if you haven't already!

Middle Tennessee Fiber Festival

The Middle Tennessee Fiber Festival is right around the corner! Located in Dickson, TN, at the Dickson County Fairgrounds on May 25th and 26th, it'll be open that Friday from 12-6 and Saturday from 9-5. We love the local flavor of this festival, now in its eleventh year (and the chicken salad in the concession stand has always been terrific). We'll be there in the Yarn Bus, along with loads of other vendors! Shop around! Take a class! See you there!?

Fixing Mistakes

Fixing Mistakes!

Let's face it: we ALL make mistakes when we knit. We drop a stitch or forget a yarnover and don't see it until the next row...and sometimes we're not quiiiite sure how to fix it! If this sounds a little too familiar to you, you need to take Sue's class! If you take just ONE class this year...we think this one is THE ONE! It's a super-empowering feeling when you make a mistake but you know you can, in fact, fix it!

Saturday, April 28th from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm, $35. Call the shop to register! 615-354-1007

*There's homework required for this one, you'll find the details here.
